In October, Brett Johnson organized the 40th Anniversary Exhibition of Art Commissioners' Choices of Works in the City of Alexandria at the Hilton Hotel near Mark Center. I am grateful to Marcee Craighill (one of the 16 art commissioners), who chose my work for inclusion in the exhibition. She spent time in my studio, looking at the scattered art space for clues to my creative process. She chose a painting that fit the specifications of the exhibition. On November 14, the well-attended opening reception at the Hilton was my first impression of the place. I love the ambiance- the lobby stretches out nicely. The lighted cases for artworks stand like gems right in the hotel lobby. The mixed crowd of art commissioners and enthusiasts was delightful- eccentricity and color are always welcomed at these events.
We mingled and talked about art (my favorite subject) while drinking wine and nibbling finger foods. That is my ideal kind of evening. Congratulations to everyone- to Brett, who organized the show, to the art commissioners, and the two fellow artist residents of the Torpedo Factory Art Center, Rosemary Covey and Ganbaatar Chombol. Thanks also to Diane Ruggiero (of the Torpedo Factory Art Center management) and everyone who attended the reception. The art commissioners’ tastes in the arts are on show to be judged by the citizens of Alexandria. The exhibition runs till February 9, 2025, and is open to the public.
Also, I am one of the artists offering discounts on all my paintings online (in the brochures on my website) and in the studio. All artworks are sold at a 10% discount till January 4, 2025. Click here to download the gift guide.
